5) Return to Talent Pool and Double Check your Tags Once you're back in your Talent Pool, double check your tags to ensure that each candidate is labeled correctly.  This is also your chance to edit and remove tags, before the next step.

5a) Make Notes for HR Team and Managers If you go into candidates' profiles directly you may add notes to inform your team and managers.  This gives little more guidance to the people interviewing candidates, but may not be screening them.

 6) Invite Candidates to Apply for Available Positions When all candidates are labeled and noted, you may proceed to invite them to apply for the open jobs.  While we provide you with a template to message your applicants, you are free to customize this.  (Adding payrate, hours and benefits is highly encouraged here)

5 Ways to Improve Your Harri Profile

CoverPhoto01-1.jpg

Currently looking for a new job? Before you start applying, first thing you should do is make sure to give your Harri profile a little refresher.

ProfilePhoto.jpg

#1: Update your profile and cover photo.

Swap out your old profile photo, and upload a new professional headshot, if possible. (Check out our post, Tips for a Professional Profile Photo, to learn how to take the perfect profile picture.) Customize your profile even more and add a cover photo. It's a great way to show off your personality or your individual talents.

Gallery01.jpg

#2: Add new photos or videos.

You probably took some awesome photos last year. Add them to your gallery, so that employers and other job seekers can take a look at your work. Got videos? Sure, include those as well. (Just make sure these are professional.)

References.jpg

#3: List references.

Now that you gained more experience this year, ask your former employers or coworkers to be references. Once you receive approval, put their information onto your profile. These references will come in handy when prospective employers request them.

Opportunities.jpg

#4: Update the opportunities you are interested in.

If you want a job that is different from the one you have or previously held, make a small edit under your Basic Information. Remove unwanted positions you are no longer interested, and replace them with your desired positions. This assures you that you will receive alerts for the jobs you want.

Messaging.jpg

#5: Stay up to date with your messages.

Make sure the hard work you put into updating your profile isn't in vain. Remember to respond promptly to employers when they message you. If you don't do so, your profile score can drop and hurt your chances of being spotted by hiring managers. Inform employers that you are no longer interested by politely declining via messaging. For more information about how your message response rate effects your profile score, click here.

Tips for Job Searching During the Holidays

HolidayJobSearch01.jpg

Based on past trends, December is historically a slow hiring month. You can still find a short-term gig, holding a position that is limited to just the winter and year-end holidays. However, if you're not interested in such jobs, use your time productively when demand is not so high, and prepare for the upcoming job hiring season ahead.

Here are some tips to help you with job hunting for 2016:

Refresh your profile, experiences and skills.

You may have been busy the few months prior, so this is a great time for you to update your Harri profile. Add any new work experience and include any extra skills you have learned. Did you take any photos or videos of your work? If yes, showcase it on your Harri gallery.

Reconnect with contacts and references.

Reach out to the people you have met and connected with throughout the year. Whether you are contacting them because you want to say a simple hello or thank you, aim to email them a few days to a week after the new year. For one, they will most likely be occupied with urgent priorities during the holidays. You certainly do not want your message to be lost in a sea of other emails. If you want a reference, have a draft email prepared and ready to send out.

Clean up your social media.

Like how you do research on companies, employers may do a background check on you. They could possibly see your social activity on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Make sure to clear off anything that could hurt your chances of earning a job. To be safe, make changes to your privacy settings.

Look through job boards and career pages.

Even though you don't see the job you want listed just yet, you can get a head start by skimming through the job boards. Go through the jobs and read the descriptions that seem similar to your dream job; keep note of such job titles. This will be really helpful when you do another job search in the future. Also, you should sign up for notifications for the types of jobs you want to apply for. On Harri, we make it easy for you, since you receive automatic alerts on certain jobs, including front-of-house or back-of-house specific positions, and more.

Best of luck to you and your job search in the new year!

5 Things That Make Your Profile Look Unprofessional

ResumeMistakes021.jpg

Being that your professional profile and resume is the first thing that recruiters see, you definitely don't want to give off an impression that you are not an ideal candidate. Don't let the little things ruin your chances of gaining a job. So make sure you have these five things that make your profile look unprofessional in check:

#1: Email Address

If you are still using the same email address you created back in high school, make a new one immediately. Get one for your professional life and work, because nobody will take you seriously if you are prettyprincess85@gmail.com. (Save it for personal use, instead.) You can easily set up a new email on Google, Yahoo or Hotmail.

#2: Poor Grammar and Spelling

Misspelled words and bad grammar are big giveaways that make you seem unprofessional. Be sure you give your profile a second look and also ask others to proofread it for you.

#3: Phone Number

It is best that you provide a personal contact number, like your cellphone, rather than a home number. You do not want hiring managers to call you at your house number, and have a family member or roommate pick up. Just make it easier for your prospective employer with a mobile number, so they can reach you anywhere and anytime.

#4: Profile Photo

You want to provide a good first impression to the hiring manager even before you meet at the interview. You can do so with a professional, business-appropriate profile photo. Do refer to Tips for a Professional Profile Photo for more in-depth advice.

#5: Unnecessary Personal Information

It's nice to share a bit about your personality and hobbies away from work, but keep it to a reasonable amount. In case you didn't know, oversharing may actually hurt your employment prospects. So no need to share overly personal details and/or photos. Topics that you can possibly discuss about are clubs, associations or organizations you are a part of, or volunteer work that you are engaged with.

Tips on How to Build Your Online Reputation

online01.jpg

The Internet and social networking play a bigger part in our everyday lives than you think. CareerBuilder found that more than half of hiring managers research applicants using search engines, and 52 percent said they used social networking sites.

It goes to show that you need to be careful of what you put out there on the world wide web. However, you can use these online profiles to help you stand out and distinguish yourself from others in the talent pool.

Here are a few ways you can create a better online reputation and impress your employer:

#1. Exhibit skills and experience.

You can provide your work history in a generic format, but that's just boring. Enhance your profile with graphics or other stimulating visuals to highlight your progression and career growth. You can create an infographic or timeline for greater support. On Harri, you can tag your profile with specialty keywords of your skills and experience, including "POS Systems", "Advanced Knowledge of Cash Registers/Money Handling", amongst many more.

#2. Display your craft.

Share files or links to your personal website and portfolio. This helps break up the amount of reading that your employer may have to do, and increases your memorability factor. Examples of popular types of imagery that are uploaded on Harri include coffee/latte art and beautifully presented/plated dishes.

#3. Show your personality through videos.

Show off your character with videos. Film yourself in your working environment, may it be working in the kitchen or behind the counter. If you like to get more personal, you can also share a short clip of you enjoying your favorite activity or hobby. You can easily import videos in the Gallery portion of your Harri profile.

#4. Provide professional references.

Include professional recommendations and references to boost your online reputation. It acts as written proof to employers of your capabilities.

With these few additions, you can raise your online presence to a greater level. Just make sure that you maintain a professional mindset when you manage all your channels, so that it doesn't hurt your chances of getting a job.
